Child Health Services

Our facilities include a 7-bed Neonatal Level II Nursery for newborn babies requiring special care. Level III facilities for very sick newborn babies requiring intensive care are provided in the general Intensive Care Unit.

The nursery is overseen by a Neonatologist (newborn baby specialist) complemented by a team of highly trained neonatal nurses. It is equipped to provide continuous monitoring, phototherapy, CPAP and ongoing care to premature and other sick newborn babies.

Paediatric Intensive Care
IHK has the only Paediatric Intensive Care specialist in Uganda on its staff. The general Intensive Care Unit is well equipped to manage extremely sick children of all age groups under the direction of a highly qualified specialist.

Paediatric In-patient facilities
This is provided by a team of 4 experienced paediatricians and a team of highly skilled paediatric nursing staff. Children are admitted to a separate 16 bed child friendly unit.

Paediatric Out-Patient Services
IHK has a dedicated outpatient children's clinic offering a number of services including consultations, well-baby check-ups, pre-school check-ups and immunisation. Specialised clinics to follow up high risk newborn babies and children with sickle cell disease also run in this dedicated centre.
